Do you remember why you bought a Miata? I sure do. It was the most cost-effective platform I could start with to have a boatload of fun. And fun I have most certainly had. This car has taught me that 300hp is not necessary to have a smile from ear to ear and that you don't need several thousand dollars in modifications to surprise someone at the track. One might say I'm a fairly young owner at 25, but there is a very large amount of owners in the community that are much younger than I am. Some might argue that this is a bad thing with all these "kids" gobbling up cars to use for God knows what. Others argue that this is great! It shows that the car (still) has appeal across generations and their owners show the same amount of dedication to their vehicles as ever. Everyone must start somewhere, and all too often people feel ostracized from some communities or social circles because of the knowledge barrier. Someone once said that ignorance is curable, stupidity is not. There is a lot of ignorance out there that needs to be fixed with these new players in the Miata game, and it's up to us to fix it. So the next time you see a "stupid" question, take a breath, resist the urge to blurt out "USE THE SEARCH BUTTON NEWB" and take the opportunity to welcome this new soul into the Miata community. We can probably attribute these new members to the resurgence in the popularity of the Miata. The NC was released and welcomed rather well by enthusiasts. The gas "crisis" hit home and convinced people that smaller, more economic cars were the way to go and imports are the obvious choice. Websites allowing online sales of vehicles like ebay and craigslist have put the cars into the digital age and increased their exposure to new owners. Internet forums have been another large factor in drawing in and informing new and prospective owners. The ball is in our court and It's time to pass it on to these new owners.
